Somerset House
Somerset House, built on the site of a 16th century royal palace, is the masterpiece of Sir William Chambers (1724-1796), architectural tutor and advisor to King George III. With almost 1,000 rooms, it was originally built to accommodate government offices and learned societies, above all the Navy Office.
