Covent Garden Jubilee Market

The whole of Covent Garden revolves around the Piazza, an open square with covered arcade modelled on Italian lines by Inigo Jones. In medieval times, the area was occupied by a convent garden that supplied Westminster Abbey with produce. Then in the 1630s Inigo Jones laid out the Piazza as London's first square, with its west side dominated by St. Paul's Church.

In an area where markets have been held since the 14th century, in the original seat of the Dukes of Bedford and situated in the heart of London’s West End, Covent Garden’s Jubilee Market is unique in that it is the only market in the capital owned wholly by the traders.

Such has been the reputation of the market that it has now been awarded its own coat of arms, an achievement of which the market is duly proud.

Essentially there are three groups of traders, those dealing in antiques, those dealing in arts and crafts and those dealing in general goods.

The General Market

The General Market in the Jubilee Hall is a market which caters for locals and tourists alike, selling a selection of clothing, jewellery, CD's, leather goods, souvenirs, china and glass.

The Art and Craft Market

The arts and crafts market is held every Saturday and Sunday, with over 120 craftsmen demonstrating and selling their original hand-made goods, some of which can be personalised on the spot. Many of the craftsmen offer a mail order service for local and foreign visitors alike.

The Antiques Market

Every Monday, the antiques and bric-a-brac market takes over the entire area of the market. With many professional buyers from leading auction houses starting the trading in the very early hours of the morning. Each trader specialises in their own particular aspect of antiques, giving as much helpful advice to the novice as to their fellow experts.

Opening Hours
Open every day.

The antique market is held on Monday, the general market on Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday and the Arts and Crafts market on Saturday and Sunday.
