Spitalfields Market

Spitalfields Market is housed in a huge airy steel structure illuminated by sunlight streaming down from skylights.
The origins of Spitalfields date back to the 13th century when a market began on a field next to St. Mary Spittle on the edge of the City of London. By the 1980’s it became inevitable that the market would have to be relocated from its original site due to the limitations of the old buildings and the very narrow congested streets surrounding them.
Following the sale of the lease of the old site, the market moved to its new location in Leyton in May 1991.
During the week antiques and crafts stalls are set up and on Sundays many organic food vendors arrive selling herbs and spices, as well as produce, bread, and pastries.
Monday to Saturday from 9am until 6pm.
Sunday from 11am until 3pm.
