Marx Memorial Library

The Marx Memorial Library comprises a comprehensive specialist collection of over 150,000 books, pamphlets and periodicals covering all aspects of Marxism, Socialism and the history of working-class movements from the 1840s to the present day.
The library was founded as a Marxist educational centre and a permanent memorial to Karl Marx in 1933 by delegates from the Marx Commemoration Conference. It marked the fiftieth anniversary of Marx's death and the book burning by fascists in the streets of Nazi Germany.
The Library is housed in a Grade II listed building built in 1737 once used by the Social Democratic Federation's Twentieth Century Press (1892-1922) and Lenin and the editorial board of Iskra (1902-1903).
